Contract Name: Brisbane Street, Camberwell
Contract Sum: £4.7 Million
Contract Period: 78 Weeks
Architect: Alan Camp
Client: Metropolitan Housing Trust
This JCT 98 Design and Build contract provided 42 flats in partnership with Metropolitan Housing Trust.
The new accommodation has been provided in a residential block providing a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed flats for rent.
The previous use for the site was a Mr Kipling's distribution warehouse and the project included the demolition and site clearance to make way for the new scheme.
The main structure for the new building is via a concrete frame making up the first 4 storeys with a 5th storey in a steel frame solution due to the step back in the elevation as a result of the design development and planning process. The design incorporates feature balconies and roof terraces with elevational treatment in a mixture of through colour render, a feature metal and brickwork with composite timber windows.
The site location is central to Camberwell, however, the design still incorporates a private car park and communal spaces for the residents.
All units were designed to achieve Lifetime Homes and Secure by Design compliant and to EcoHomes "Very Good".
This contract was successfully completed 3 weeks early in September 2009.
