Rydon has a strong and experienced refurbishment team, which has been closely involved with a number of Registered Providers working on the Government's Decent Homes programme.
Our refurbishment team specialises in the technology and skills required to deliver the future low-carbon refurbishment which will be necessary if the country is to meet its commitments to a reduction in carbon emissions. Included in this is an initiative in partnership with Brighton University under the government sponsored "Knowledge Transfer Partnership" programme, under which we are employing a postgraduate to work with us, and the university, on research into new technology and materials which can deliver CO2 reductions cost-effectively.
We have also joined up with Worthing Homes and specialist construction and property consultants, Faithorn, Farrell, Timms, to launch RELISH, a unique market test which aims to assess the relative benefits of low cost energy saving technology when combined with improvements in resident life-style and behaviour. The principle that RELISH is seeking to determine is that resident education can be a critical component of achieving the reduction in carbon emissions targeted by government.
The initial 12 month pilot study continues to enjoy the support of Constructing Excellence as an 'Innovation in Practice' project and has attracted interest from the Homes and Communities Agency, social housing landlords and Members of Parliament.
