Ferrier Point is a £8.5 million refurbishment of 23-storey Tower block in Canning Town. 

The refurbishment of Ferrier Point is part of the overall £3.7 billion regeneration of Canning Town and Custom House being promoted by the London Borough of Newham.

The refurbishment includes the installation of new kitchens, bathrooms and central heating systems. With the whole block clad in insulated rainscreen cladding with new triple glazed windows incorporated within. The external elevation will also be made up of 375m2 of photovoltaic cells to provide free power to the building. 

Approximately 50% of the south facade of the building will be covered in the electricity generating cells, with the renewable energy source generating power for the building’s communal electrical supply.

A steering group made up of residents was consulted in the early stages of planning to ensure the designs were well received. Ferrier Point consists of 115 homes, 30 of which have been left void in anticipation of the works. Current residents will remain in occupation whilst the works are carried out.

Works started at Ferrier Point in April 2009 and completed in February 2011.

The Rydon Site team was awarded the Considerate Constructors Scheme, Silver National Site Award 2011.
