Sustainable communities are key to the success of any scheme and at Rydon we seek to maximise the support we offer the local communities in which we work. Providing employment and business opportunities is a key area on which we focus. This involves not only offering employment within those communities but also supporting local suppliers and subcontractors.
We prefer to use local skills and labour, wherever practical, for various roles on site. These vary from labourers and forklift drivers through to Resident Liaison Officers (RLOs) and Site Managers.
Once a contract has been agreed, our management team contacts local employment agencies and we offer local businesses, suppliers and sub-contractors the opportunity to bid for work. We support projects which integrate the training and employment needs of those who are out of work, the local workforce and partner companies.
On a number of our Inner London projects we have employed people who live on the estates to work as RLOs. They understand the issues affecting their neighbourhood and can help the community directly through their role. This has proved so successful that many of our RLOs have remained at Rydon and have moved with us from scheme to scheme, assisting other communities through their experience.
We have worked on a number of London schemes where we have actively gone out to meet local suppliers and contractors, and following assessment, giving them the opportunity to tender for the works.
