Case Study:
 Mountfield Gypsy Traveller Project

Working in the Community

As part of our ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Rydon team at Orpington, led by Partnering Manager, Gary Mitchell, decided to identify a project within the local community in which their specialist expertise and experience could make a difference.

After a few enquiries, Gary's attention was drawn to the Mountfield Gypsy Traveller Project, a self funded registered charity on the Mountfield estate that provides support for the Gypsy Traveller community.

The Community had created a teaching facility for children who had dropped out of or been excluded from the mainstream school run by volunteer teachers and helpers. The project was such a success that they needed to relocate to larger premises.

This is where Gary and his team at Rydon stepped in. They located a three bedroom void property that had been earmarked for the charity but which was in need of considerable upgrading.

By engaging the subcontractors and getting them to buy into the concept of CSR, the team was able to obtain from them a commitment to give both time and resource to the upgrading of the property.

The work included upgrading the kitchen, internal decorating, fitting security grills, flooring, electrical works and assisting with the move.

All costs were fully covered by Rydon and our subcontractors.

Following completion of the project thanks were received by Gary and his team from Broomleigh Housing Association's Housing Officer and the Support Officer working with the travellers.
