A sustainable heating system makes up the core of the re-development of this mixed-use community estate in Islington.
This scheme is powered by CHP plant, a wood pellet biomass boiler and gas-fired boilers as well as a large heat store. The sustainable community heating system meets the energy demand of the 521 affordable houses and flats; 301 private flats; Community Centre; Youth Centre; workshops; and commercial units.
Rydon engaged with Havering's newly launched apprenticeship scheme to develop skills and opportunities within the local community. Working with Hyde Housing and The Prince's Trust, Rydon has delivered a programme of training and experience for 16 to 25 year old unemployed residents. They attended taster days with ten being selected in autumn 2008 for the first of The Prince's Trust's "Get into Construction" courses to be run on a live construction site. All of the residents passed their CSCS certificate and two were offered apprenticeships at Rydon.
