Good Fences Make Good Neighbours

Rydon have been delivering the maintenance repairs service to residents on the Sandycroft Estate for 9 years. Sandycroft is a sheltered housing scheme for elderly and less able residents.

For the operatives and supervisors at Rydon, its not just about their 9-5 working week. They have been offering a helping hand to the residents to get those outside DIY jobs ‘nipped in the bud'!

The team gave up their weekend free of charge and worked hard to replace and renew fencing, build and re-hang new garden gates, tidy up gardens and communal outdoor spaces, design a ramp to ensure safe access to the refuse areas for the residents, plus much much more.

"It makes you feel good about yourself and our company to be able to give something back" James Hunt, Operative

The residents were extremely grateful to the staff who volunteered their spare time to help them. As a maintenance business, its not only about attending to repairs, but also about becoming part of the communities we are working in, and dedicating our time to help improve them.

"Some of our elderly residents find it really difficult to get odd jobs done, especially things that fall outside the usual ‘day to day' repairs remit. This can put a real strain on residents that are very frail, housebound or have no immediate family. A recent meeting with the residents of our Sandycroft Retirement Scheme highlighted this.

After listening to some of their frustrations, Gary from Rydon very kindly offered the services of his team for a Saturday morning to help out on the estate. The residents got together a list of jobs that they'd been struggling to get done, and Gary and his team did the rest. The morning was a huge success and made a real difference to the people living at Sandycroft" Sarah Rose, Team Leader Older persons Services
