Ready, Steady, Go!

The sun was shining and the young people of Evenlode were looking forward to six weeks' off school. The Rydon team working on their estate were keen to encourage them out of the house and off the play-stations and Xboxes!

‘Summer Sports' at Evenlode was set up and facilitated throughout the summer holidays. The young people of the estate kicked off the activities with a very competitive, but fun, game of rounder's. Those taking part included residents, young people, and staff at Rydon!

With the success of the rounder's activity, it was time to up our game! Throughout the next few weeks the teams were committed to playing more rounder's, football, cricket and much more. The final sports day brought further enthusiasm from the young people. The 100 metres, tug of war, sack race and relay race meant each and every one of them was aiming for the gold medal!

The initiative was a huge success. There were young people and residents who had lived on Evenlode for many years but not had the chance to engage and interact with members of their own community before now. Not only was this a healthy and fun way to spend the summer holidays, it was an opportunity to bring the residents and children of Evenlode together - and it certainly paid off!
