The sun wasn't shining but the residents were singing!
Leaving the workmen to continue with the busy refurbishment to their sheltered housing accommodation, a group of residents from the coffee morning group at Woodville Close took a trip down to Worthing with our team of RLOs for a day out!
The journey started with plenty of singing on the coach from the residents, and plenty of discussion about ‘weather' it was going ‘rain on their parade' or not!
First stop at Worthing was a nice cup of tea in a well known café on the pier recommended by one of the residents. From here some of the residents took a stroll down the promenade, whilst others hit the amusement arcade with their pennies for the slot machine!
Next on the agenda was the shopping - but this all started with the old fashioned sweet shop. Clutching at their favourites, the residents were delighted with their chocolate bananas, nougat, aniseed twirls and barley twists!
Lunch was then served in a restaurant opposite the pier - fish and chips and a glass of wine for some! The residents took comfort in enjoying the day together and relaxing by the sea - with the added bonus of spending it with their RLOs, who had been working with them closely for many months.
Time was getting on and the driver of the coach was on his way. However there was still time for one last treat - a 99 ice cream!
"Our role as RLOs can at times be challenging, but one thing we put a lot of effort into is becoming part of the communities we work in. It's a real pleasure to be able to spend time with the residents out of the working environment, demonstrating that we are real people who want to make a difference to their lives and their homes. The Worthing trip was a great day out, and there was a fight in the sweet shop for the last of the aniseed twists!"
