Rydon partnered with Affinity Sutton alongside two other contractors, to trial a variety of refurbishment works in 105 of Affinity Sutton’s typical rented properties. This trial involved using three different price packages (£6,500, £10,000 and £25,000) to establish which package can deliver the most efficient and effective ratio between economic expenditure and CO2 savings.
The Rydon refurbishment team was involved in the careful specification and implementation of the refurbishment works. By working with Bailey Garner the Rydon team was able to find solutions to make the works as efficient as possible. The most widespread solutions were air tightness measures and heat recovery fans.
Post-works monitoring is being undertaken by Camco who will calculate payback savings in economic and CO2 value. The initial findings of the project will be published in a report in May 2012.
Bromley Fergusson, Trainee Site Manager at Rydon says “it has been interesting to work with these new products and low carbon solutions to see which ones provide the best everyday savings”. Rydon’s Resident Liaison team provided valuable support to the success of the works, and this will continue into the 2nd phase of this project, FutureFit living, which will focus on the importance of education and communication for the long term success of the project
This is the first project that has been facilitated by the housing sector itself, looking at every aspect of the carbon challenge from finance, working with existing contractors, skills and supply chains, and how to engage residents in the retrofit agenda. Steve Blake, Refurbishment Director at Rydon says “…we congratulate ASG for their commitment to this project. Through FutureFit, Rydon has been able to prove the successes and limitations of the various solutions and help determine the best approach to reducing our CO2 emissions in housing”
The refurbishment works were completed in April 2011
