Rydon was publicly recognised by the Prince's Trust at their annual London and South East Celebrate Success event held on 30 November when we won their "Inspiring Leaders Award". Competing against other partner organisations and individuals, Rydon was selected as the best example of "individuals and organisations who have shown leadership in changing young lives and who share The Values of The Prince's Trust".

Key to our selection was the pioneering of a new delivery model for the Trust's "Get Into Construction Programme". This was the tailored training course which Richard Whitby and his team designed and delivered to ten disadvantaged young men from the London Borough of Islington at our site with Hyde on the Packington Estate. Unlike previous Get Into Construction programmes which had been delivered by professional trainers in ‘classroom-style' environments, the Get Into Construction course at Packington was delivered on site by Rydon employees and by volunteer subcontractors.

In addition, at the end of the course, Rydon took on two of the young men as apprentices, fulfilling the ultimate aim of the programme, to get young people into employment. Billy Webb joined Rydon and is now an apprentice electrician working at our site in Dunn Street, Hackney. Daniel Sparks joined as an apprentice in our Maintenance division and is based at our offices in North London where he is training to become a multi-trade operative. Both are making excellent progress and are fine examples of how young people can succeed if given the right opportunities.

The Trust has been so impressed with the success of our programme that it is now using this as a case study on how best these programmes can be delivered.

This award is great recognition for the efforts of Richard and his team and for Rydon's continued work in helping the communities in which we work.
