 Rydon wins £16.5 million regeneration
 contract with Family Mosaic

Published: May 2010

The regeneration team at Rydon led by Mark Mitchener has received confirmation that their tender for Phase 1 of the regeneration of the Heathside and Lethbridge estates in the London Borough of Lewisham being led by Family Mosaic has been successful.

Rydon beat Higgins and Mullally in the final stages of the competition.

The two adjoining estates currently consist of 565 homes. Once completed, the scheme should provide 1,200 new homes, 446 of which will be affordable with the remainder being for a combination of shared ownership and private sale. Phase 1 will involve delivering the first 138 apartments of the overall project. The masterplan which has been prepared by PRP Architects also details a park, a community centre and play areas. Included within the masterplan are buildings which will enjoy panoramic views across London.

The estate is in a prime location in the Borough of Lewisham being only a few minutes away from Lewisham, Greenwich and Canary Wharf via the DLR. The site is notable because it is constructed over a 17th century chalk quarry: in 2002 a bus travelling down the A2 fell into a gaping hole created by partial collapse of the road into part of the old quarry.

Demolition of the previous buildings has already been completed by Family Mosaic and work is due to begin on the new development by July.

Further phases will be separately tendered in the future.
