Live Train on site at Packington

Published: January 2012

Live Train is a free 12 week construction programme which gives the unemployed people of Newham and Anchor House, a hostel and life skills centre for homeless adults, the skills and experience to start a sustainable career in the construction industry.

The bespoke training course is carried out in a training workshop in Anchor House as well as on site, currently Rydon's Packington Estate in Islington, which provides the best opportunity to learn valuable trade skills as well as a taste of life on site.

The programme is being run by SDP Training Solutions, an initiative created by SDPlastering who are a long standing sub contractor of Rydon. Rydon's refurbishment team, who are working closely with the LB of Newham on the St George's estate, have been supporting SDP in the design and delivery of their first programme as well as helping them to shape and secure the future of the initiative

Also involved in Live Train is Georgia Hardie, graduate of the Prince's Trust Get into Construction programme at Packington in 2011, and winner of the Prince's Trust Breakthrough Award. This award recognises the progress of young people in overcoming barriers and developing new skills. Following her graduation, Georgia was taken on full time by SDP, with funding support from Rydon for her future training.
