 Estate, London

The Metropolitan Housing Trust (MHT) London, which is part of Metropolitan Housing Partnership has awarded Rydon a £20m refurbishment contract at the Ashmole Estate in South London. The Ashmole Estate is located adjacent to the KIA Oval Cricket grounds, and close to the River Thames. Works on the Ashmole Estate involve both internal and external upgrading to a total of nearly 700 properties.

Rydon will refit tenants' homes with new kitchens, bathrooms and double-glazed windows and will be overcladding two tower blocks and providing a new district heating system. The works will be delivered in two phases over the next five years and are due to start on site in September 2011.

This is one of the largest housing refurbishment contracts to come to the London market for some time and helps to consolidate Rydon as a leading contractor in this sector.

Steve Blake, refurbishment director at Rydon, comments: "In the current economic climate, securing this contract against fierce competition is a major achievement. We are delighted that Metropolitan Housing Trust has selected us for such a landmark project and look forward to working with them and their residents over the lifetime of the scheme."
