The project at Bishop Ramsey School, Ruislip amalgamated a two site school onto one site freeing up land for private housing to provide cross subsidy to the scheme.
This £16.5 million project provides new facilities in two new buildings so that all 1200 students can be accommodated on the one site. The 3 storey 'wedge' building contains a library, 6th form study areas, school hall, refectory and kitchen, general teaching spaces, admin areas and specialist classrooms for Design and Technology, Art, Music and ICT. The second new building provides specialist facilities for Dance and Drama.
This scheme will be built to a BREEAM rating of Very Good utilising Ground Source Heat Pumps, natural ventilation via Passivent, solar heating and a "green roof".
To facilitate the new build, there were several phases of demolition to remove the old Technology Block, School Hall and kitchen, and several temporary classroom units.
The main school remained fully operational throughout the construction of the new facilities, with the works programmed to fit around the school schedule. Great care and close liaison with the teaching staff was maintained to ensure the minimum of disruption.
