Phase 1 comprised a new, purpose built, 6th Form Centre within the grounds of the existing school.
The construction techniques incorporated within this 2-storey steel frame structure include mono pitch steel roofs and a central flat roof; brick clad to the east and west elevations and timber clad with large composite windows to the north and south elevations.
To further assist in utilising natural light, there are high level clerestory windows to the internal elevations looking out on to the flat roof area.
The teaching areas have been constructed to a high acoustic standard to meet the school's needs. The school's requirements to meet modern technology standards, with data links to all areas and interactive white boards have been fully embraced in this scheme.
During the construction period, the main school remained fully operational throughout, with the works fitting around school schedules. Great care and close liaison with the teaching staff was maintained to ensure the minimum of disruption.
The scheme commenced in January 2006. The new 6th Form Centre was successfully completed in September 2006, to coincide with the commencement of the new school year.
Based on the success of this project, Phase 2A was negotiated for alteration works and extensions to parts of the existing school to provide new music, science, art and CDT facilities, again carried out under a Traditional contract. Work commenced in May 2006, with completion in November 2006.
Further negotiations resulted in the commencement of Phase 2B in October 2006. This phase comprised the creation of two new entrance areas, a timber framed extension to the English department and the refurbishment of an ICT cluster area and the sports changing facilities.
