Case Study:
 Sussex University

Contract Name: Sussex University, Student Accommodation
Contract Sum: £4,397,500
Contract Period: 57 Weeks
Architect: Architecture Plus Ltd
Client: Bradford and Northern Housing Association

This project comprised the construction of 42 new five and six person flats and six new family flats in two blocks, providing accommodation for 286 students on the University Campus.

The contract period was based on completion to coincide with the commencement of the new academic year.

The buildings were traditionally constructed, using mass concrete footings, beam and block precast concrete flooring, cavity brickwork and blockwork and an interlocking concrete roof tile.

Access to the site, which was located in a cul-de-sac to the rear of the campus via a narrow road, was a constant planning consideration. All deliveries were co-ordinated and planned to avoid traffic congestion and nuisance to the student population.

The contract also included the fit-out items such as carpets, curtains, white goods, beds, mattresses, tables, chairs, bookcases and fitted wardrobes with integral vanity units. Rydon Construction played a very pro-active role in co-ordinating all these elements of the scheme and believe that successful team working was essential to ensure that the project completed on time.
