Contract Name: University of Brighton
Contract Sum: £1,900,000
Contract Period: 52 Weeks
Architect: Hubbard University
Client: Brighton University

In We secured by competitive tender, the design and build contract to construct 163 units of student accommodation, of which eight were designed for disabled use, plus two warden flats.

The scheme was within the grounds of a listed building adjacent to a listed tithe barn and bounded by Sussex style flint walls.

There were many discussions with English Heritage as the new designs not only had to take into account the sloping site and retention of existing trees, but also the external materials needed to compliment the surrounding area.

In addition, there was noise reduction criteria to adhere to as the site was bounded on one side by a busy road and on the other by a railway line.

We agreed a programme with the University whereby students utilised the contract as part of their work study projects.
