The project comprised the design, build and completion of a single storey building that has a total floor area of approximately 2000m². The scheme provided a 25 bedroomed Older Person Inpatient Unit to be used by the Mental Health Trust. The building is separated in to three distinct areas to provide a 10 bedroom functional ward, 15 bedroom assessment ward and an interconnecting administration area.

The building has construction materials and techniques that are largely traditional, incorporating external brick/block cavity walls with pcc plank floors to ground and first floor plantroom, pitched truss roof, and foundations of interconnecting ground beams on piles. The bedroom ensuites are pcc pods which internally are fully completed at the factory.

Internal walls are solid concrete block with two coat plaster and painted. Ceilings are double boarded, skimmed and decorated.

The building has its own plant room that houses the required mechanical and electrical equipment to support the building, which is sited on a first floor mezzanine within the roof void.

External works included the formation of a new access road, and both hard and soft landscape elements were used.

The scheme was completed in May 2006.
