A traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony in Worle has marked an important stage in the construction of Alliance Homes’ new £10m development of 65 self-contained new homes for people over 55 with support needs for sale and to rent.

The event at Tamar Court brought together the teams involved in the project to celebrate placing the final brick in the new facility, under construction by Bristol-based firm Rydon.

Marking the occasion Rydon’s South West Regional Director, Paul Barber, was joined by John Bird, Deputy Chair, Alliance Homes Group as they climbed to the top of the scaffold to complete the ceremony and view progress of the development that started on site last year.

Historically, topping out is associated with reaching the structural completion and bringing good luck to a new building. Today, the event is an opportunity to gather the project teams together to celebrate what has been achieved.

Paul Barber, South West Regional Director for Rydon, commented:

“Since we started in April last year, work has progressed extremely well and it is exciting to be here today with Alliance Homes and the project teams to recognise everyone’s efforts so far. Once weather tight, we look forward to moving our focus to the interior of the building where we can work to create the new spaces and install the facilities that will make this such a valuable focal point in the area.”

John Bird, Deputy Chair of Alliance Homes Group added:

”This is an important and exciting project for the Group which now provides support and care services to around 1,500 people to support them to achieve or maintain levels of independence in their lives.  We look forward to welcoming the first residents later this year.”

Serving Worle and the surrounding area, Tamar Court will provide a hub of specialist dementia support and housing services, including a Wellbeing Centre and a number of community resources.

Its design is focussed around the community facilities, which include a café lounge, activity room, hairdresser, therapy consultation area and a library.

Residents will also be able to enjoy outdoor space inside the characterful landscaped gardens that will surround the building or on balcony areas with sun shading, which feature on homes at upper levels.

The scheme has been developed in a partnership between Alliance Homes Group, North Somerset Council and NHS North Somerset and has also received funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
