A big congratulations to Manuel Dove from Rydon’s IT department who joined 31 of the industry’s brightest young minds at a Construction News event to develop a technology solution to improve the efficiency of construction.

The Tech Sprint was launched at this year’s CN Summit to provide a platform for contractors, consultants, architects and suppliers to come together and work with technology in our industry.

The group arrived at the Hilton Bankside in London, meeting for the first time before being separated into teams.

Manuel joined team ‘Diversity’ and set about brainstorming ideas for what they would work on, right through the night.

The team’s aim was clear: to change the way the industry works by creating a software platform to provide all the data about a site that anyone could ever need, in one easy-to-find place.

“Existing technology provides us with all the data we need to do this,” Team Diversity said. “This is a platform to bring this information in, from any source at all – CCTV, smartphones, sensors. You could even use drones to do this as well.”

After 24hrs of developing their new idea, Manuel and his team presented to the judges along with the other contestants. Though they did not win the judges were clearly impressed and felt there was a “clear need” for more solutions like these.

Thinking outside the box is vital if construction is to keep up with other industries and win the war on talent – Manuel did a fantastic job representing Rydon and goes to show what can be achieved when you work collaboratively to solve challenges.
