February 2017
Ashmole Estate, situated opposite the Oval cricket ground in Lambeth, South London, has been shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Approach to Regeneration’ category of the UK Housing Awards 2017.
In a category that recognises regeneration projects that transform an area, along with the lives of the people living in it, Ashmole Estate, which Rydon has been transforming for housing association Metropolitan, stands out for a number of initiatives including an award-winning employment and training scheme, financial inclusion services, and social and tutoring clubs for young people.
Collaboration with residents at an early stage of the regeneration has resulted in warmer and more energy-efficient homes, new and renovated facilities, and engaged residents who reported a satisfaction rate of 97% with the refurbishment work in their homes.
Rydon initially secured a contract to undertake works to Phase 1 of the project, comprising properties from one 22-storey tower block and numerous other multi-storey housing, sheltered accommodation and community buildings across this large estate. Following the successful delivery of this phase, Rydon was awarded Phase 2 which is currently being delivered. Click here to read more.
The shortlisting follows Rydon’s recent win at the Housing Innovation Awards, where Packington picked up Most Innovative Regeneration Scheme, and is further recognition of Rydon’s community-focused approach to regeneration.
Launched in 1997 the UK Housing Awards were the first to recognise achievement in social housing, and they remain the most respected awards in the sector. The awards recognise the ingenuity, creativity, passion and results of housing organisations across the UK. The UK Housing Awards attract the sectors key leaders and serve to highlight the organisations, individuals & projects that are leading the way in affordable housing. Click here to find out more.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel on the 26th April 2017.
