The community café at Green Man Lane, which recently launched as part of a celebration of the completion of Phase 1 of the £155m project, has rapidly gathered momentum as a community hub and centre for talented local artists.
Launched in October, the café has already held a packed schedule of activities, including local music gigs and a photographic exhibition.
As part of the celebrations on the completion of Phase 1 of the project, which included the creation of the café alongside 176 apartments and houses for affordable rent and private ownership, there was an exhibition on the history of the estate and the continued regeneration that is being delivered in a joint venture between Rydon and A2Dominion.
Commenting on the phase completion Ealing Council Leader, Councillor Julian Bell, commented: “The transformation of the Green Man Lane estate is taking shape at great pace and it’s amazing that we already have so many brand new homes and wonderful community facilities to breathe new life into the area.
“It is wonderful to be celebrating the completion of phase one at the scheme and, thanks to the continued support of the local community, we will eventually have a further 187 new homes for local people.”
OPEN Ealing is one organisation now based at the Green Man Lane café. The community arts project is successfully running a busy schedule of courses and workshops in photography, playwriting, art history and music. The events calendar for OPEN Ealing has been equally popular with poetry, cabaret and short plays amongst the Saturday events organised within the community space.
Two new resident groups were also launched by A2Dominion and Rydon during the event:
Work continues on Phase 2 of Green Man Lane’s regeneration to deliver a further 187 new homes. The second phase is due for completion in 2017 and plans for a third and fourth phase are in place, with a further 400 homes, community facilities and an expanded local school expected to be delivered by 2022.
Commenting on the progression of Phase 2, Tom Rigby, Development Director for Rydon, said: “This second phase continues the journey to bring new life to Green Man Lane, creating more high quality new homes and local facilities in an exciting design that is integrated with the wider community. We’re looking forward to bringing further employment and training opportunities to Ealing as part of the construction process.”
Designed by renowned architects Conran and Partners, this regeneration project that is replacing the original estate built in the 1970’s will deliver over 700 new homes alongside community facilities, green spaces and play areas.
