Rydon Maintenance has been awarded two golds at the 2014 Considerate Constructors Scheme National Awards, the annual ceremony that recognises the biggest contributions made towards improving the image of construction.

Winning more than any other company this year, from just 16 golds throughout the country, the judges handed the coveted accolades to Rydon in recognition of the following:

L&Q Responsive Repairs

Rydon’s contract with housing provider L&Q provides responsive repairs for over 2,000 homes across Sussex and Surrey.

The judge noted the “truly exceptional performance and presentation as “outstanding” after visiting one of the sites on the contract. The monitor noted an “embedded culture of continuous improvement evident in all areas. Operatives are visited everyday by their supervisor to encourage feedback on all matters relating to the project and to identify new or better solutions. This is supported by close contact with sitting tenants to ensure satisfaction and consider potential service improvements. The possible use of LPG and electric vehicles is currently being evaluated”.

Rydon’s Corporate Social Responsibility plan was also noted, referencing the full redecoration and landscaping of a local community centre.

Canning Town office

The Canning Town office manages Rydon’s South London PFI contracts, providing day-to-day repairs for homes across Canning Town, Myatts Field and Brockley.

Noting how hard the team had worked to “become a valued part of the fabric of the area”, the judge remarked on the “excellent relationship with tenants… with genuine respect and friendship clearly existing and a highly co-operative ambience. This has been generated by scrupulous attention to detail, including smart operative presentation and by the voluntary evaluation of each property for any required further work during current repairs… This was a first-class performance from a company clearly committed to the best in considerate construction”.

The judge also remarked on the number of community initiatives and its active volunteer programme. This year it saw Rydon working alongside its partners to completely refurbish Ruscoe Road, a community outreach facility for sheltered housing residents in Newham. Much of the work was completed in time volunteered by staff as part of Rydon’s volunteering programme. You can read more about this refurbishment project here.
