October 2013
Children from a nursery school neighbouring Rydon’s Brunel Engine Shed project have learnt about the dangers of building sites during a visit from the construction industry safety ambassador Ivor Goodsite.
The nursery occupies a neighbouring part of the Grade II Listed building that Rydon is refurbishing into a centre of enterprise for local technology businesses.
Rydon has been working closely with The Co-operative Childcare nursery throughout the construction process. The site team arranged for Ivor to meet the children at the nursery so that they could take part in a number of fun activities and learn about the importance of safety and potential hazards that can be found on construction sites. Resident liaison officers Tessa Shelley and Christina Stephanou with the site team spoke to the children during the event about the dangers of going on to building sites, with a presentation showing hazards and examples of good site safety.
The children were also able to try on the safety equipment and clothing that all construction workers use on site, including hard hats, hi-vis jackets as well as safety goggles and gloves.
Rydon also designed and produced activity sheets for everyone to complete and colour in. All the children had the chance to meet Ivor personally and give him a high five.
