Rydon is running a Princes Trust 'Get into Construction' scheme in the New Year at our Green Man Lane regeneration scheme in West Ealing. A group of young people will be chosen to work on this site for two weeks as part of the scheme. They will experience a number of trades, work on real buildings and get a feel for what it is like to work in the construction industry.

Read the experiences of three young people who have so far taken advantage of the apprenticeship and work placements schemes offered on Green Man Lane.

David, 22, approached Rydon looking for a construction apprenticeship local to his home. His application was successful and he has been working alongside qualified carpenters on first and second fix stages of the construction. He has attained his CSCS certification and undertakes site based learning as well as attending college during one out of every four weeks. David aims to achieve his NVQ Level 2 within 18 months via this apprenticeship.

Thirty two year old Plumber, Paul Tondel has progressed from a work placement on an A2Dominion repairs and maintenance contract to an apprenticeship with sub-contractor Watkins, who are carrying out all of the Mechanical and Engineering works on the GML regeneration. Paul demonstrated a real commitment to his studies and work based activities on his previous placement and fully deserves the opportunity of the apprenticeship afforded him by Rydons and Watkins. He is now on a Level 3 qualification and will soon be embarking on his NVQ and gas/ renewable energies (green) units in the coming months. Paul is really enjoying his time on site and recognises that this opportunity provides a pathway to a sustained career in his chosen trade.

Apprentice bricklayer Charlie Hannington is the youngest of the three at 18 years old, and he is also the newest arrival on site. He is progressing well and his foreman is pleased with his performance and believes he has the potential to become a competent bricklayer. Charlie is also supported by Construction Skills and will shortly be assessed by his college assessor on site.
