Mayor of London, Boris Johnson cut the ribbon on the new Library and Adult Education Centre in South Ruislip on Tuesday 25th September officially opening the new Rydon-built facility.

During the ceremony he was joined by Leader of Hillingdon Council, Councillor Ray Puddifoot and the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Michael Markham.

Mark Mitchener, Managing Director of Rydon Construction said:

"It has been a privilege to play a role in creating this new centre for learning in South Ruislip. We are extremely proud of the building, which we hope will assist in the development of local people and contribute to regeneration in the local area for many years to come."

Councillor Ray Puddifoot, Leader of Hillingdon Council, said:

"This is the latest of our new libraries and is a fantastic facility for South Ruislip residents. At a time when many other councils are closing or cutting back on library services, we believe that we are the only local authority in the country either rebuilding or refurbishing every one of our libraries."

The centre replaced the old single-storey building with a state of the art, open plan library on the ground floor, an adult education centre complete with classrooms, a workshop and training flat on the 1st floor and 10 new apartments split between the 1st and 2nd floors.

Designed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating, the building incorporates 11% of renewable technologies, which are provided via photovoltaic panels and solar panels placed on the South facing roof areas.

The scheme is a flagship project for the London Borough of Hillingdon and is a landmark development in South Ruislip forming a key part in the regeneration of the area.
