Work has reached the Topping Out stage at the latest in Rydon’s growing portfolio of education projects in the South West Region.
Delivered as part of the wider redevelopment of the former Ensleigh Ministry of Defence site to the north of Bath, the new Church of England Primary School, a Free School known as the Abbot Alphege Academy, will occupy the former Royal High School playing field site known as The Chill.
The school will open for the new academic year starting this September and will operate as part of the Comenius Academy Trust, providing 210 pupil places and serving the new housing developments being built in the surrounding area.
Councillor Michael Evans, Bath & North East Somerset Council's cabinet member for children's services, commented on the scheme: "It's good to see work on this brand new community facility developing well and on time. This school is one of two facilities which are due to begin welcoming pupils from September as part of the council's commitment to providing good quality education and facilities across the district."
Particular care is being paid by the Rydon team as the site is located within the Bath World Heritage Site, is alongside the Cotswold AONB to the north and within the local setting is the Bath Conservation Area and Lansdown plateau.
