July 2014
Pupils have been helping to decorate the hoarding on the site of their old primary school in Sidley, East Sussex with the help of Ivor Goodsite.
Wanting to include the local community in the development, Rydon invited former pupils to design artwork for a hoarding competition. Rydon invited the Year 6 pupils, who had been in Year 3 when they left the school to go to a larger facility nearby, to design and paint a large collage for the hoarding under the theme “Rainbow Garden”, drawing inspiration from their old school garden and the surrounding countryside.
The site is now being redeveloped by local housing provider Amicus Horizon, who is working with Rydon to create a much-needed Extra Care Home for over the 55’s.
Once the artwork had been completed, Rydon arranged for it to be mounted to the hoarding and covered with Perspex to protect it. Rydon invited the pupils who had taken part in the competition for a grand unveiling as well as the opportunity to meet the construction industry mascot Ivor Goodsite.
Their artwork will remain proudly on display for the local community to enjoy for the duration of the school summer holiday. At the end of the break, Rydon will take down their work and mount the Rainbow Garden at their school as an art installation so all pupils at the school can continue to enjoy the work.
Later this summer Ivor Goodsite will be making a second visit to see pupils at Glenleigh Park Academy. Accompanied by one of Rydon’s resident liaison officers, Ivor is visiting the school to teach everyone about the dangers of construction sites.
