Local residents have been celebrating as a community outreach facility in the London Borough of Newham officially reopened after a major refurbishment.

Residents of Ruscoe Road wanted to revamp the community facility so that it could be enjoyed by the wider community.  After a two week renovation and over £10,000 invested into the site, residents proudly welcomed their friends and neighbours to join them in celebrating the official launch of the new communal lounge.

Julie Impey, Pinnacle PSG’s sheltered housing manager of the scheme at 55 Ruscoe Road, welcomed residents from Newham and the surrounding area to visit the completely revamped communal lounge, which has been a hub for local people for many years.

Julie commented: “This lounge is a venue for countless events for sheltered housing residents locally on Ruscoe Road and for those in the surrounding area. The housing and refurbishment teams have done a great job modernising it, meaning we can offer an even bigger calendar of events and activities. It marks a great start to 2014.”

The partners, London Borough of Newham, Regenter, Pinnacle PSG and Rydon, who provide housing services to the local area, worked together on the project to update the venue refurbishing the interior décor and services - providing new flooring, blinds, modern lighting, furniture and new colour on the walls. The internal layout has also been rearranged with the removal of a chimney breast and fireplace to provide better use of the space.

Papu Ram, contracts manager, Rydon Maintenance added: “This has been a significant modernisation, which Rydon is pleased to have contributed to the efforts of the partnership with the London Borough of Newham, Regenter and Pinnacle PSG. It’s clear how popular the venue is and how important it is to the local Newham community.”

Future plans for the facility include free internet access for the residents of Ruscoe Road as well as a calendar of community activities.
