Rydon completes construction of The Nelson Health Centre

Rydon’s construction and fit out of the new state-of-the-art Nelson Health Centre on Kingston Road has been completed.

Once open, the new facility will provide a range of primary care and community services to local residents, bringing care closer to home.

NHS Merton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been leading on the planning of the clinical services at the facility and is currently working with the appointed service providers to equip and prepare the building for when it opens its doors to patients on 1 April.

Wayne Walbrook, Operations Manager from SLHP, said “Rydon Construction has done an exceedingly good job, the building has been handed over on time and the quality of the works is excellent.”

Jamie Andrews, Area Director at CHP, said: "We are delighted that this state-of-the-art, spacious, modern health centre has reached practical completion and is set to play a significant role in developing and improving the quality of health and social care services for residents of Merton and the wider local community.”

Simon Moore, Construction Director from Rydon Construction, said: “The Nelson Health Centre project has been something we have been very proud to work on from the start. This is a prime example of positive partnership working. We are pleased to have delivered this special facility to the residents of Merton. We wish all those involved from now on the best for the future and look forward to it opening on 1 April.” 

Service providers at the centre include Sutton and Merton Community Services, South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust and St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust/ Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust (ophthalmology).

Services at The Nelson Health Centre will include:

  • GP surgeries The Cannon Hill Lane Medical Practice and The Church Lane Practice- relocating and forming a new single organisation bringing the best from both practices to deliver excellent care to their patients
  • Endoscopy, x-ray, ultrasound and blood tests
  • Outpatient clinics, minor procedures and ophthalmology
  • Outpatient physiotherapy, podiatry and diabetic retinal screening
  • Assessment and investigation services
  • Community mental health services
  • Community pharmacy services.
