The Regis Gate development in Sittingbourne was the site of a time capsule burial by pupils from the neighbouring Regis Manor Primary School on Wednesday (October 1st).

Rydon Project Manager James Dickens worked with AmicusHorizon and 12 pupils, aged 5-11, to create a time capsule to tell future Sittingbourne residents what life is like in 2014. They each completed a questionnaire and added other items including pictures they had drawn, a mobile phone, coins, a computer memory stick, a tin of baked beans and a copy of the local newspaper.

The capsule was later buried in the garden of the Regis Gate development and Rydon provided each of the children with their own hard hats and high vis jackets that they kept as a memento of their day.

Regis Manor Headteacher, Karen Mirams, commented: “This is a tremendous opportunity for the pupils to appreciate the passage of time, as well as the fact that we leave a mark for what we have done in the world. Thank you to AmicusHorizon and Rydon Construction for organising this event.”

AmicusHorizon Development Director, Neill Tickle, had the honour of placing the time capsule in the ground. Mr Tickle said: “We’re so pleased that the children have created this fantastic time capsule for Regis Gate. We hope the school continue to be involved with the new residents when they move in. The scheme will be a hub of services for older people including hairdressing, treatment rooms, chiropody and a welcoming restaurant open to the public and we hope this will quickly become a part of the local community.”

Ben Finch, Contracts Manager for Rydon, added: “The time capsule is a long-standing tradition in our industry and it’s great the children have been part of this, adding their favourite items from the present day. It has also been a good opportunity to teach them about the construction process and this fantastic new development rapidly taking shape near their school.”

The scheme for housing provider AmicusHorizon, formally known as Wyllie Court, contains a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments dedicated to older persons' housing. It will provide 24 hour care packages tailored to the needs of the residents.
