The ASPIRE - Construction Academy at Weston College has successfully teamed up with Rydon’s Ebdon Court ‘Extra Care’ construction project in Worle, North Somerset, to deliver a training programme for a group of local people out of work.
The objective of the initiative was to provide the work experience, key skills and CSCS card required to get a first step on the construction career ladder as well as the chance to make some industry contacts.
Working alongside Rydon, Alliance Homes and Job Centre Plus, the two week programme was delivered at Weston College and enabled participants to try their hand at a number of trade skills including carpentry, plumbing and bricklaying, as well as providing the opportunity to:
Paul Barber, South West Regional Director for Rydon, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to get a taste of a rewarding life in the construction industry whilst developing the necessary soft skills for interviews and CV writing.”

Providing candidates with the chance to gain skills, spend time on a live construction site and find out more about the careers available in the construction sector are a great addition to the CV!“
Several trainee placements have been made available for successful candidates from the programme to work with one of Rydon’s subcontractors on the Ebdon Court site.
Rydon is delivering the state of the art Extra Care scheme for Alliance Homes to provide a range of housing, care and support for people with dementia.
Located in Worle, North Somerset, the new development is replacing an existing care home and will comprise 65 self-contained flats and community facilities.
