Rydon Homes awarded for contribution to the character of Lewes

The Lewes Civic Society, Friends of Lewes, has awarded Rydon Homes for making a significant contribution to the enhancement of the town’s character with the Crosshaven Place development in Malling, Lewes.

The awards ceremony took place on Friday 11 November in the Waterstones bookshop on Lewes high-street and was presented by the Society’s President, Baroness Kay Andrews, the past Chair of English Heritage and a resident of Lewes.

Paul Mepham, Design and Planning Director at Rydon Homes, collected the commendation for the development, commenting:

“With Lewes being such a characterful place, we took great care to design and construct a fitting development for the surrounding area whilst making best use of the available space. The Rydon Homes team should be very proud of this local recognition.”

The Crosshaven development was launched in 2013 and is a family-oriented collection of 7 three-bedroom townhouses. Originally a detached house on a large plot, this project is a good example of underutilised land, within walking distance of the town centre, being converted from housing one person to housing multiple families.

Rydon were in good company, with a section of other outstanding buildings - including Riverside House, which is situated on the banks of the river Ouse and featured on last year’s Grand Designs - receiving an award.

The Friends of Lewes Society is a registered charity which was founded 1952 and now has around 440 members. Every two or three years they give awards in recognition of building projects which have make a significant contribution to character of Lewes and are excellent buildings in their own right.
