Through our Volunteering Programme, Rydon encourages staff to take part in voluntary activities that benefit charities and community organisations close to where we live and work, offering every member of staff one fully-paid day each year out of their normal work schedule.

Animal lovers from Rydon’s finance team took their volunteering day at the South Godstone Animal Centre, which is run by the RSPCA. Jess Grey, Lisa Westrip, Gill King and Ramona Sirbu joined forces to spend a day at the facility, which looks after a wide range of pets seeking a new home in the local area.

The team started their day with a tour of the kennels and the cattery area, meeting the volunteers who were looking after the animals and finding out how they looked after them. They then helped with a project to clear and sort one of storage units that held the donations for their charity shop, making better use of the space available and clearing anything that was of no use.

Later on they donned their green fingers and cleared a large patch of overgrown land so it was clear and safe for the dog walkers at the centre. They then had time to spend with either the cats or dogs that are each waiting to be rehomed. We understand that the team managed to just about come home without acquiring a new furry friend!

Jess, Lisa, Gill and Ramona also presented the centre with a £90 donation, fundraised from a bake sale back at Head Office.

Commenting on their experience, Jess Grey said: “We all enjoyed the day and the weather couldn’t have been better. We got to see how well cared for they all were, considering they only survive on donations from the public. The volunteers were all brilliant and we really urge anyone to donate/volunteer through the Rydon Volunteering Scheme!”
