Hazelhurst Court, an Extra Care development delivered by Rydon for Phoenix Community Housing, secured another accolade at the Inside Housing Development Awards for 'Best Older People's Housing Development' for a scheme of under 70 homes.

Located in Beckenham, South East London, Hazelhurst Court is comprised of 60 new extra care apartments suitable for people aged 60 and above and features generous communal spaces including an internal courtyard and fishpond, garden room, café (with commercial kitchen) and TV suite.

Each home is dual aspect with balconies and outside spaces that overlook the neighbouring streets and internal courtyards.

Hazelhurst Court has already won awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) as and in the HAPPI (Housing our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation) category for the Housing Design Awards for the quality of design and adaptability for people of differing needs.

Phebe Deeble, a resident of Hazelhurst Court said: “I had a fabulous evening at the awards and was so pleased to be there representing the tenants of Hazelhurst Court. I’m absolutely elated that Hazelhurst won the prize, it’s an incredible achievement and I had a thoroughly wonderful time.

“There is nothing that I don’t like about my home – from the moment I walked in I was amazed by how beautiful and quiet it was. I describe Hazelhurst as my utopia, I couldn’t wish for any better and I’m so pleased that other people agree!”

Jim Ripley, Phoenix Chief Executive said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to win this award, the third that Hazelhurst Court - our first residential development - has won. We’re incredibly proud of the quality of these new homes and the impact they’ve had for Phoenix residents and the wider community and delighted that this has been recognised by Inside Housing.

“Most of all I’m incredibly proud of the feedback that we’ve received from residents, and the high standard Hazelhurst Court has set for Phoenix as we build more new homes in our community.”
