Alliance Homes Group has awarded Rydon’s Bristol office a £9m contract to deliver a state-of-the-art extra care scheme to provide a range of housing, care and support for people with dementia.
Situated in Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset, the new development will replace an existing care home and comprise 65 self-contained flats and community facilities. The development represents Alliances’ largest single project to date.
Specialist dementia facilities within the building will include a Wellbeing Centre and a number of community resources, comprising a café lounge, activity room, hairdresser with therapy consultation area and a library. Externally, landscaped gardens will surround the new building and upper levels will feature balcony areas with sun shading.
Paul Barber, South West Regional Director for Rydon, commented: “We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to build this exciting and important scheme, providing quality modern homes, independent living and specialist services for the wider community. We look forward to delivering this development for Alliance Homes Group using our expertise in this sector.”
The scheme has been developed in a partnership between Alliance Homes Group, North Somerset Council and NHS North Somerset and has also received funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Clive Bodley, Alliance Homes Group Chief Executive, added: “This is an exciting project for us and our partners and will deliver much needed facilities locally. With modern communal areas this scheme will provide residents with a real sense of community.”
The 82 week programme recently started on site and will be constructed to a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ environmental rating.
