Projects and teams across Rydon Group have commanded success in several categories at the 2015 Building Better Healthcare Awards, which took place earlier this month.

The awards are held each year to celebrate innovation and improvement in the built environment, medical equipment and people working in the UK healthcare industry.

Best Primary Care Development

Winning this year’s Best Primary Care Development award was Nelson Health Centre, which was built by Rydon Construction and opened in April this year.

The new community health facility for South West London Health Partnerships was designed by Murphy Philipps Architecture and provides modern, flexible, state-of-the-art facilities comprising a broad range of GP and outpatient services for the local community.

The judging panel commented: “This development shows very clever use of the old buildings in the area. It fits in remarkably well with its surroundings.”

Award for Financial Efficiencies

Ryhurst and its JV with Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust (LCFT), Red Rose Corporate Services (RRCS), were highly commended in two categories.

Ryhurst entered the Financial Efficiencies category for its work on the Space Utilisation project, which has helped reduce LCFT’s estate footprint by 13% and generated over £2.1m in overhead savings and cost avoidances, as well as improving the corporate and clinical environments for staff and service users.

Estates Team of the Year

Ryhurst and RRCS were also highly commended for their work with LCFT in the Estates Team of the Year award.

The team has exceeded LCFT’s estates related Cost Improvement Programme (CIP) targets over the last five years, resulting in savings for the Trust of over £5m. On top of the savings, RRCS has made significant improvements to the quality of LCFT’s hard and soft FM services including catering, cleaning, estates maintenance, portering and fire safety.

As well as these achievements across Rydon Group, LCFT also saw its new mental health inpatient unit, The Harbour in Blackpool, win the award for Innovation in Procure21+ via contractor IHP, a project that Ryhurst project managed.
