Rydon has secured the contract to deliver a new Army HQ Support Command building at the Hammersley Barracks in Aldershot.
The £9.2m scheme represents one of the most important contracts to be let under the Project Allenby/Connaught contract.
Rydon is already on site following a tree planting ceremony, led by Major General Colin Boag, the General Officer Commanding HQ Support Command. The new headquarters will be completed in January 2014.
Paul Barber, South West Regional Director for Rydon commented:
"Securing the Army HQ Support Command building is tremendous news for Rydon and testament to the standard of work for the MoD from our Bristol office."
"Having delivered twenty buildings for Aspire Defence's Allenby/Connaught contract, we look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship on this important scheme."
The building will contain 55,000 sq ft of open plan office space across three floors, which are connected by two atria and features a street-like circulation spine. The two main entrances will be linked internally by circulation space through the ground floor forming a 'street' accessing the atrium spaces. The floors will be completely open to the atrium affording views across the office areas.
External features include a slate tile roof, masonry envelope, curtain walling aluminium windows and a Brise Soleil system. Internal finishes include porcelain floor tiling and decorative wall panels to the entrance atria with glazed roofs.
The principal internal areas will be naturally ventilated through the vertical sliding windows and the automated ventilators. Air will be extracted via the natural stack effect through automated ventilators at the top of each atrium. The windows will offer personal control whilst the automated ventilators will be controlled by sensors through the Building Management System. The ventilation to the perimeter cellular offices and meeting rooms will be managed solely through the windows and automated vents. External air-source heat pumps will provide the heating via under floor heating.
