Rydon Construction’s SW team has won a West of England LABC Building Excellence Award for the new Clifton Suspension Bridge Visitor Centre in Bristol.

Winning the Best Small Commercial Building category, Rydon’s project team collected the award at the ceremony hosted at the Bristol Marriott Hotel.

The award-winners will now automatically proceed on to the November finals held in London for a chance to be a national winner. Good luck to the team!

Not content with just one entrant into these awards, the Rydon team were also award finalists in the following categories:

  • Best Inclusive Building – Kingswood School, Bath
  • Best Inclusive Building – Claremont School, Bristol
  • Best Educational Building – Kingswood School, Bath
  • Best Inclusive Building – Claremont School, Bristol

The new visitor centre, designed by Alec French Architects and recently opened by HRH Princess Anne to celebrate the famous bridge’s 150th anniversary, was built by Rydon on the Leigh Woods side of the crossing. The centre is home to a range of new interactive exhibits charting the Bristol landmark’s long history.

The project was part-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and forms part of a larger injection of investment to modernise the Bridge’s facilities and support its long-term maintenance and preservation.

The award is also hot on the heels of the SW team’s recent record high score for Rydon on the Mangotsfield Primary School extension scheme in Bristol, which scored 44 out of 50 points in its recent site audit by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
