Rydon has secured a £3m contract with the YMCA to modernise a supported housing shelter for homeless young people in Ealing, West London.

The refurbishment and new-build programme, which has started at the 25 St Mary's Road site, has been funded by the GLA and will provide 115 rooms, to include en-suite, studio or one-bedroom accommodation.

Work will also take place to improve communal kitchens, a lounge, café, offices and an activities studio used by community groups. An extension will be created to accommodate a glazed atrium, housing the new reception area and a larger nursery facility for children aged 2-3.

The project will be completed in 2014.

During the contract, Rydon will also be offering skills and training opportunities to unemployed people through Live Train, an award-winning local employment initiative.

The YMCA was originally founded in Ealing in 1870 and is now the largest voluntary provider of safe, secure and affordable supported housing for young people in England. Every night, over 9,000 young people stay at a YMCA in 250 communities throughout England.
