October 2012
Following the first event held in July this year, the second public consultation for the proposed redevelopment of the former Queen Elizabeth Children's Hospital in Tower Hamlets was held on Wednesday 3rd October.
Local residents, business representatives and interest groups gathered in Hackney City Farm's Straw Bale Barn to see the latest proposals on display. These included the designs for the elevations along Hackney Road, which would see the restoration of the Victorian façade, use of brick as a primary cladding material, front door access for homes at ground level and provision for local start-up businesses in the new public space 'Muffin Square'.

A street mural by local artist Jo Peel was also unveiled at the event, which had been painted onto a section of the building along Goldsmiths Row.
Rydon and Family Mosaic have been selected by the Greater London Authority as their delivery partner, working together with HTA Architects, to redevelop the 0.6 hectare site in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, which has been vacant since 1996 when the hospital closed. The proposals include creating up to 185 new homes, 45% of which will be for affordable rent for family housing.
