The festive season came alive in style as residents from Islington’s Packington estate joined Father Christmas and his reindeer at a Winter Wonderland event, organised by Hyde and Rydon.

As well as marking the festive season, the occasion celebrated the completion of Phase 3 of the regeneration project, which has seen the delivery of a total of 341 new homes and a range of new and much improved community facilities. Significantly, almost all of the existing residents from Packington have now been rehoused in modern and energy efficient homes.

The event kicked off with a Christmas Carol performance delivered by local children from Hanover Primary School, followed by music from a local band.

Amongst the most anticipated events of the evening was the arrival of Father Christmas in his sleigh accompanied by Mattie and Ingemar, who were real reindeer! Even snow was falling from the skies.

Every child received a gift from the grotto and over 100 children decorated their own ginger biscuits and made their own decorations.

Also on offer was a festive raffle, drinks and food, all of which raised valued funds for homeless charity Crisis.

The Packington Over 55s Group also sold over a hundred mince pies and more than 30 homemade cakes.

Rydon worked with staff at Hyde to organise the event, many of which joined in and dressed up as elves.
