AmicusHorizon has appointed Rydon to design and build a new £1.8m housing development in Hastings, which will provide affordable homes for local families.
The scheme comprises eight apartments and seven houses and is located on Linley Drive, just over a mile from Hastings town centre. The two-storey development includes both two and three-bedroom homes with private outdoor space.
The site is located on the side of a steep hill and will be constructed using a timber-frame assembly, which will be weather boarded and brick-clad.
Mark Mitchener, Managing Director, Rydon Construction commented:
“Rydon has established a strong reputation for the quality of our affordable housing in the south east of England and we are pleased to be working on another project with AmicusHorizon. Linley Drive is an unusual site being on a steep slope, but we have designed the development to make the best use of the space available and we will ensure it is a welcoming place for families in Hastings.”
Rydon will be providing ideal opportunities for people to learn and train during the construction of the project.
It will be built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes environmental standard, ensuring all homes are warm, efficient and that energy bills are kept to a minimum.
Neill Tickle, Regional Development Director, AmicusHorizon commented “We’re delighted work has started and look forward to completing 15 quality new homes in Hastings.”
The new homes will be built over a 47-week construction period, with completion due early 2014. The development is part funded by the Homes and Communities Agency.
