The CBS is spearheaded with the help of international legal services organisation DLA Piper and is building an impressive list of supporting companies from within the British Construction industry. Rydon has signed up to support the CBS financially and is looking at how it can participate in the overriding aim of the scheme to help young people get into construction.
One of the first initiatives of the group has been to develop the ‘Get Into Construction Course’. This gives 16-to 25 year-olds a taste in new skills including painting and decorating, carpentry, bricklaying and plastering. Individuals also go on a week's work-placement on their chosen skills trade, undertake site visits and are entered for a Construction Industry Health and Safety Test (CSCS) and a Key Skills Level 1 certificate.
Kate Burt, Head of Commercial Development for The Prince’s Trust, said: “This programme gives young unemployed people the opportunity to shine and learn vital trade skills and improve their confidence. This is key when trying to get a job in the construction industry.”
