The contract with the London Borough of Hillingdon included the demolition of the existing library building and the construction of a new-three storey block.
The new facilities include a state-of-the-art, open plan library on the ground floor, an adult education centre complete with classrooms, a workshop and training flat on the first floor and 10 new apartments split between the first and second floors.
All apartments have been designed to achieve Lifetime Homes and Code for Sustainable Homes Code Level 3. The project is also SDS and Secure by Design compliant and has been designed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating.
The new block has piled foundations and a steel frame with pre-cast concrete plank floors clad with brickwork, two coloured renders and curtain walls. The design has incorporated 11% renewable technologies provided via photovoltaic panels and solar panels placed on the south-facing roof areas.
The scheme is a flagship project for the London Borough of Hillingdon and is a landmark development in South Ruislip, forming a key part of the area’s regeneration.
Modern methods of construction have been used throughout to minimise our waste and reduce our carbon footprint. These include lightweight metal stud partitions, which will reduce the foundation loadings and structural materials required.
The project was delivered under a JCT 2005 (Rev 2 2009) design and build form of contract.
The centre was officially opened by the Mayor of London.
