Barnet Homes selected Rydon to deliver a new Extra Care development at Moreton Close in Barnet, which will provide 53 self-contained one and two bedroom apartments with a range of associated facilities to support adults with additional care needs to live independently.
Previously a sheltered housing scheme with a number of garages, the old building was demolished on the site in preparation for the new homes.
A ground breaking ceremony was marked by Barnet Council’s Leader, Barnet Homes’ Deputy Chief Executive.
Barnet Council is investing £15 million in the project, which is the first of three Extra Care Housing developments planned for the borough. The new development at Moreton Close is part of Barnet Council’s wider housing development programme, which will see more than 700 new homes built on council-owned land in the borough over a five year period.
The Rydon site team has been working together with its supply chain and local educational groups to deliver a new community garden across the road from the site to create the new Mill Hill East Community Garden.
The garden is being established in unused space at Mill Hill East Church and will provide a vibrant new space for all the community to enjoy and come together. The project gave local young people from Oak Lodge School and Canada Villa Youth & Community Centre opportunities to improve the look of their local community whilst trying their hand at trade skills including bricklaying.
