The addition of a new entrance foyer, staff offices and refurbishment of the Ellen Wilkinson Primary School, designed by BPTW Architects, will enable the teachers and support staff to provide their pupils a more secure and modernised learning environment together with a broader range of education services.
The project has been undertaken over four phases with phase 1, which included the construction of the new entrance foyer and staff offices carried out over the summer holiday and completed in time for the beginning of the autumn term.
The remaining three phases have involved the decanting of the classroom and corridor areas to allow for the ongoing operations of the existing school to minimise the impact of construction activities and ensure strict health & safety guidelines are kept.
Works to these phases included:
Extensive consultation and planning has taken place between Newham’s project officers, teachers, school governors, caretaking staff and our management team to coordinate the demands of schooling over 400 students at the same time as undertaking a fast track construction scheme.
In addition to our site managers, a dedicated liaison manager facility was provided to help minimise areas of disruption and carry out safety talks to the children to make them aware of the range of work that is being undertaken to their school.
