The YMCA in Ealing is a busy sheltered housing facility that received a refurbishment, remodelling and new build programme to modernise and extend the building and the services it provides to young people in need.
Funded by the GLA, Rydon secured the extensive programme at the 25 St Mary's Road site to provide 115 rooms, including en-suite, studio or one-bedroom accommodation.
Work also took place to improve communal kitchens, a lounge, café, offices and an activities studio used by community groups.
An extension was created to accommodate a glazed atrium, housing a new and enlarged reception area and a larger nursery facility for children aged 2-3.
Rydon provided a range of training and skills development opportunities for people who were living in the building as well as from the local community who were interested in a career in construction. The opportunities were delivered through Live Train, an award-winning local employment initiative, as well as BounceBack, which provides ex-offenders an important helping hand into our industry.
The YMCA was originally founded in Ealing in 1870 and is now the largest voluntary provider of safe, secure and affordable supported housing for young people in England. Every night, over 9,000 young people stay at a YMCA in 250 communities throughout England.
