TIDWORTH
This was Rydon’s first project for Aspire Defence, to carry out a full refurbishment of the 100-year-old Jellalabad Barracks in Tidworth Garrison on Salisbury Plain. The building originally served as accommodation for junior ranks.
The project was to convert the Grade-II listed building into high-tech HQ offices for 43 Wessex Brigade, whilst retaining many of the listed features, over a 24-week period.
Much of the space was converted from small cellular rooms to larger open-plan space, core amenity and welfare facilities with full services and IT installation.
Externally, cast iron columns and railings to the balconies and walkways had to be carefully restored. The building was also brought up to the latest counter-terrorism measures, whilst maintaining its listed integrity.
